Soccer Tournament Results

During the summer, I have been playing soccer with my colleagues. After my first game, I was approached by two captains, each requesting that I join their teams (Dirtbombs and Water Pistols) for the Ministry's upcoming soccer tournament. I decided to join the Water Pistols since their captain approached me first. I felt that the Water Pistols is a strong contender for the Finals.

Although we had a good run, the Water Pistols did not make the finals. The standings are found at the end of this entry. Looking back, our team had a great chance of winning pool II if we had beaten the Louis Green Goats. Fortunately for this team, we had no substitutions that game and they won by 2 goals.

One might wonder why I did not join Dirtbombs especially since they ended up winning the MOE Cup 2006. In my opinion, we would have been the champions if we had substituions for the game against the Loius Green Goats. The Water Pistols was the only team to defeat last year's winners Futbol Nation without penalty kicks. Team Futbol Nation went to the finals because they beat us by one goal difference (see results below). They tied with Dirtbombs but the latter team got lucky by winning the championship with penalty kicks (so we could have beaten Dirtbombs as well if we had reached the Finals). We also beat out the X-Treme Taps for 3rd place in a friendly match after the tournament. All these facts show that we are a championship-calibre team.

Nonetheless, even though things did not go our way, we had a great time. We played with team spirit, and even celebrated as champions after the tournament. I would definitely play again next year for the same team. Maybe I can ask for an extension on my PEY so I join the tournament again, we shall see.
